COLORADO SPRINGS -- BYU guard Terrell Lyday, a junior from Fresno, Calif. (Fresno City College), is the Mountain West Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week. Lyday transferred to BYU this season after spending two years at Fresno City College. This past week, he helped the Cougars capture two victories and improve their overall record to 11-2, matching the best start since the 1991-92 season.

Lyday scored 57 points (28.5 average), pulled down seven rebounds and had five steals in two games. He shot 61.5 percent from both the field (16-26) and from 3-point range (8-for-13), as well as going 17-for-21 (81 percent) from the free throw line.

In BYU's 77-66 win over UC Irvine on Jan. 5, Lyday tallied 22 points and recorded two steals. He went 5-for-9 (55 percent) from the field, 10-for-13 (77 percent) from the charity stripe and 2-for-4 from beyond the arc.

At Utah State on Jan. 8, he scored a career-high 35 points after going 11-for-17 (65 percent) from the field, 6-for-9 (67 percent) from 3-point land and 7-for-8 (88 percent) from the foul line. The 35 points is the second-highest scoring total in the Mtn. West this season, while the six treys was one shy of the BYU record of seven. Lyday also added four rebounds and three steals.

Lyday is second on the team in scoring with 16.7 point per game and has scored in double-figures in 11 of the Cougars' 13 contests. He has also connected on at least one 3-pointer in all 13 games this season, three shy of the BYU record for consecutive games with a trey (16).

This is Lyday's first player of the week honor of the season and the second for BYU.
