BYU Fares Well in Second Day of Diving Invite

LOS ANGELES -- After dominating the first day of competition at the USC Trojan Diving Invitational, the BYU diving teams continued to perform well in day two on Friday.

While the women stormed to 1-2 finishes on the 1M board Thursday, it was the men's turn Friday. Senior Devan Porter, the defending conference champion on the 1M, won the event again, with a score of 182.80. Teammate Aaron Russell, a freshman, finished just two-tenths of a point behind with a 182.60. BYU's Scott Randall and Viraj Patil also finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the event.

The women had a tougher time in their weaker event, the 3M board, but still fared well in a field of some of the nation's top divers. Senior All-American Rachelle Smith, who won the 1M event the day before, finished seventh with a 413.85 in an event won by USC's Kellie Brennan. Teammates Aubrie Cropper and Anna Tutunnikova finished in ninth and tenth place.

The invitational will conclude Saturday morning. Results will be posted as they are available on BYU's official athletics home page, www.byucougars.com.
