Cougars face Conference Rival University of Utah in First Dual Meet of 1999-2000

The men's and women's swimming and diving teams will travel to Salt Lake City Friday to take on in-state and conference rival the University of Utah at 6 p.m.

Series with the Utes

The men and women were 2-0 against the Utes last season. In the past decade, the men are 12-6 against Utah, while the women have gone undefeated in the past four seasons.

Men Swimmers to Watch

Arunas Savickas, Junior: Swims back and free. Savickas broke five Lithuanian national records this summer and won three titles at the 1999 WAC Championships en route to being named the WAC Swimmer of the Year.

John Lowry, Senior: Swims breast and IM. The swim team's lone senior, Lowry is on BYU's all-time best list in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke.

Gary Tan, Freshman: Swims back. Just 17, Tan is a national record holder in the 200 back in his native Singapore and should finish just behind Savickas in the backstroke events.

Women Swimmers to Watch

Hanalee Hawkins, Senior: Swims free and back. Hawkins was a WAC finalist in three events and the team's MVP last season.

Jennifer Tasker, Junior: Swims breast. Tasker placed 4th in the 100 breast at the 1999 WAC Championships, a higher finish than any other Cougar.

Heidi Lietz, Freshman: Swims free and fly. The team's top recruit, Lietz was a Senior National qualifier in the 200 fly.

Divers to Watch

Viraj Patil, Sophomore: Patil won the WAC title on the platform last year.

Devan Porter, Senior: Porter won the WAC title on the 1M last year.

Rachelle Smith, Senior: Smith was named a second-team All-American on the 1M at last year's NCAA Championships and won the 1M 1999 Senior Nationals title last summer.
