Four BYU Women Qualify For Main Draw Of ITA Regional Tournament Main Draw

SALT LAKE -- Four members of the BYU women's tennis team will compete in the main draw of the ITA Regional Tournament starting Thursday at the Eccles Center in Salt Lake City.

Two Cougars, second-seed Eline Chiew and 11th-seeded Gee Gee Garvin, qualified automatically for the main draw. The other BYU players had to compete in the qualifying round held Wednesday.

Freshmen Dominique Reynolds and Liza Khoudoiarova each advanced to the main draw by winning both of their qualifying round matches.

Reynolds defeated Laura Miller of S.W. Missouri State 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) in the first match and finished the round by beating Beau Jones of Boise State 7-5, 6-1.

"She (Reynolds) played really smart," BYU coach Craig Manning said. "She served very well and beat a very good player in Beau Jones. They both (Reynolds and Khoudoiarova) played very well today."

Khoudoiarova advanced by defeating Sandy Solado of S.W. Missouri State 6-2, 6-4. She then beat Nadine Lynn of Air Force 6-1, 6-2 to advance to the main draw.

The only Cougar in the qualifying round that didn't make it was senior Kim Kelly who was defeated by Stella Veerman of New Mexico State 6-4, 6-1.

The tournament will run through Saturday.
