Parents are Kendall and Barbara...father played football at Georgia Tech...general studies major.

Before BYU

A defensive back and wide receiver for Oak Ridge High...team was 30-3 for three years...state champs during '76...earned the Head Hunter and defensive back awards on his team...was all-state honorable mention...coached by Emory Hale (East Tennessee State).

Freshman Year 1977

Good technique and plays run well...played with JV.

Sophmore Year 1979

Selected as player of the week by the coaches against Weber State and San Diego State...had two interceptions against Weber for 18 yards...was a backup defensive back and played on special teams.

Junior Year 1980

Named honorable mention All-America for Associated Press and first team All-WAC...three times he was named coaches' player of the game (Wisconsin, Utah State and Colorado State)...he started all of the games during the season...he had three interception returns and one fumble recovery...had 10 tackles and one pass deflection against Utah...recorded nine tackles against San Diego State and Hawai'i.
