Athletic Department Policy on Nondiscrimination
BYU Athletic Department Policy on Nondiscrimination
The BYU Athletic Department is fully aligned with Brigham Young University’s mission statement and reaffirms that “all relationships within the BYU community should reflect devout love of God and a loving, genuine concern for the welfare of our neighbor.” We value the diverse backgrounds, experiences, and contributions of each student-athlete, coach, and administrator.
Our department provides equal opportunity in employment and athletic participation for all administrators, employees, and student-athletes without discrimination or segregation on the basis of race, color, ethnicity, religion, national origin, sex, gender (including identity and expression), sexual orientation, age, or disability. We provide equal opportunity regardless of status in these categories. Notwithstanding the above, consistent with BYU’s religious affiliation and purpose, Brigham Young University and the Athletic Department regulate conduct that is inconsistent with essential elements of the religious values and beliefs of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. All members of our Athletic Department community are required to comply with the Brigham Young University Honor Code. The Athletic Department also prefers faithful members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in employment.
Any student-athlete or employee who feels that he or she has been subject to discrimination prohibited by the above policy should contact Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Deveopment, Diversity & Inclusion Whitney Johnson, 331 SAB; Senior Associate Athletic Director/Senior Woman Administrator Liz Darger, 314 SAB; Associate Dean of Students Trevor Wilson, 378 SAB; or may contact the University Equal Employment Office, A-285 ASB.
