Before BYU

Playing both fullback and linebacker, Kyle attained all-state and All-American honors at Provo High ... attained all-state and All-American honors at Provo High ... coached by Gary Roylance ... also had two baseball letters.

Summary

Played in the Hula and Japan Bowls, then launched a professional career with the Denver Broncos (1982 training camp) and the U.S. Football League (USFL) Denver Gold (1983) and New Orleans Breakers (1984). He played on the Los Angeles Rams' replacement squad in 1987.

Freshman Year 1978

Rushed for 125 yards against the Air Force jayvee ... played in three varsity games as a fullback.

Sophmore Year 1979

Backed up All-WAC linebacker Gary Kama ... saw lots of action on special teams ... selected as special teams player of the week against New Mexico ... made the switch to linebacker in the spring.

Junior Year 1980

Second Team All-WAC ... started most games at middle linebacker ... missed the opening game against New Mexico because of a hand injury ... recorded six tackles and three hurries against San Diego State ... recovered a fumble against Wisconsin ... had 12 tackles against Wyoming ... had 11 unassisted tackles at Hawai`i ... had 12 tackles (one for a loss) against UTEP ... had 15 tackles and a pass deflection at Utah ... had team high 16 tackles against SMU in the Holiday Bowl.

Senior Year 1981

Western Athletic Conference Co-Player of the Year ... First Team All-WAC ... honorable mention All-America, Associated Press ... WAC and Sports Illustrated Defensive Player of the Week vs. San Diego State with 10 unassisted tackles and eight assisted, including five for losses, four for sacks ... also had one pass breakup.
