Parents are Alema S. and Merita...father was on Samoan LDS mission with fathers of teammates Tau Harrington and David Kinard (Al Kinard is a popular entertainer in Hawai'i and Spence Kinard is voice of weekly Mormon Tabernacle Choir broadcasts)...served LDS mission in Samoa...recommended by former BYU defensive great Mekeli Ieremia...father is general manager of tourism and handicraft...was an Eagle Scout at age 13...married Geraldine Mann in July, 1989...majoring in political science.

Before BYU

As a freshman and sophomore attended Campbell High in Hawai'i, where he played against Lakei Heimuli and Thor Salanoa...transferred to the LDS school in Western Samoa and played rugby as a junior...as a senior attended Samoana High in Pago Pago, American Samoa...was a fullback and wide receiver...coached by Samoa Samoa (Washington State).

BYU Hall of Fame

Freshman Year 1984

Lettered as a freshman...was backup linebacker midway through the season.

Sophmore Year 1985

Again played on special teams and in passing situations.

Junior Year 1989

Was a second unit player for varsity, but started on special teams...threw the key block for one of Stacey Corley's NCAA record-tying TD kickoff returns against Air Force.

Senior Year 1990

Returned from mission in time for spring football but suffered foot injury and redshirted.
