Career Summary

Mitch Mathews came to BYU as an All-Metro wide receiver from Southridge High School in Beaverton, Oregon. He became a four-year letterman, playing in a total of 41 games as a Cougar. Mathews tallied a total of 2,083 receiving yards with 152 receptions (13.7 average) and 24 touchdowns. As a senior, he was the team leader in yards per reception and receiving touchdowns, ranking 12th in the nation for touchdown receptions in 2015. Mathews registered a career-long 72-yard reception and six 100-yard receiving games during his career, including a career-best 182-yard performance against Nevada in 2014. His 16 receptions in single game against Nevada ranks No. 2 on BYU's all-time list. Junior Year 2014

  • Scored on a 6-yard reception in win over Houston
  • Notched a team-high five receptions for 62 yards and one touchdown in season opener at UConn
  • Set new personal bests with eight receptions in a game and 117 receiving yards vs Utah State

  • Hauled in fourth and fifth touchdowns on the season in loss to Nevada, passing his season high set in 2013 of four
  • Secured a career-high 16 receptions for 182 yards vs. Nevada for No. 2 all-time in receptions in a single game–just ahead of Reno Mahe's 14 catches against Hawaii in 2001 and behind Jay Miller's 22 in a 56-21 win against New Mexico in 1973
  • Had six grabs for 60 yards at Middle Tennessee – his third-most reception total in a game this season
  • Ended the game against UNLV with 120 yards on six receptions with one touchdown catch, eclipsing the 100-yard receiving mark for the third time this season
  • In win over Savannah State, he ended the game with 110 yards on four catches with two touchdowns, including the first score of the game – a 71-yard catch from Stewart
  • Named to the College Sports Madness All-Independent First Team
  • Caught a 25-yard TD pass for his ninth on the year, finishing with 82 yards on nine receptions in Miami Beach Bowl
