Daniel Coats came to BYU from Northridge High School as the Utah State Player of the Year and 2001 Deseret News Mr. Football. Coats was a consistent player for BYU and played in 46 of 48 games in his career and made 32 starts. The powerful blocking tight end lettered four years and is known for his good hands. He set a BYU record for receptions as a freshman tight end with 278 yards receiving and 30 receptions on the season. Coats earned Freshman All-America honors in 2003 and was later credited with 22 catches for 239 yards and two touchdowns his senior season.
