Day two of the BYU Diving Invitational ended on Saturday with a repeat outcome on the men's side and the women finding a win on the dives of another freshman. The Cougars ended the meet with dual wins on the platform.
The men competed on the 1-meter on day two with the same outcome in the top two spots. Senior Scott Randall finished second with a score of 297.65 to eventual winner, and winner of the 3-meter of the day before, Utah's Sterling Richards who posted a score of 302.6.
On the women's side, who saw freshman Kristin Pitt post a win on the 1-meter on day one, saw another freshman Angela Nelson placing first on the 3-meter with a score of 458.1. The Cougars also picked up a second place finish in the event with returned letter-winner Aubrey Low scoring 448.25.
On the final event of the weekend Low would capture her own victory with a first place finish on the platform with a score of 197.55 and Nelson placing second with 179.55. Randall would also pick up an individual win on the platform posting a score of 210.65.
The swimmers and divers will now break from competition until the 8th of January for the men and January 15th for the women when the teams will face Washington and Colorado State.
The men and women's diving teams will see their first action in two weeks when the Cougars host the BYU Diving Invitational this Friday and Saturday. BYU will be competing against in-state rival Utah and Mountain West Conference foe UNLV.
"I think all three teams have really good assets on their teams," Head diving coach Keith Russell said. "The University of Utah has a powerful men's squad and a good team on the women's side."
The Cougars found a lot of success against the Utes earlier in the season when the women swept both the 1-meter and 3-meter events at the Beehive relays, also hosted in Provo. Freshman Kristin Pitt picked up her first individual win diving for BYU that night.
The men will be led by the two-time Mountain West Conference Diver of the Week Scott Randall. So far this year Randall has dominated on the board, picking up first place finishes on both the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard against Notre Dame and UNLV.
The meet will begin on Friday at 10 a.m. with women's 1-meter and men's 3-meter prelims and finals being held that afternoon at 1 p.m. Saturday will follow the same format with the men competing on the 1-meter while the women compete on the 3-meter. The divers will also face-off on the platform Saturday afternoon.
