LOS ANGELES - Hailey Campbell, Hayden Palmer and the 400 medley relay team all broke school records at the MPSF Championship meet in Los Angeles Friday night. The men jumped to first place and the women stayed strong in third place after three days of action.

Hailey Campbell defended her title in the 100 back, setting a new school and meet record with a time of 53.45. Palmer smashed the school record in the 400 IM by five seconds, finishing third in the finals with a time of 3:47.54. The men's team of Preston Jenkins, Brady Wells, David Armstrong and Brent Murray broke the school record in the 400 medley relay, finishing in second place with a time of 3:12.37 and breaking the school record by three seconds.

"It was great to see Hailey, Hayden and the relay team break school records today," head coach John Brooks said. "The guys swam well and hold the lead over a really good UNLV squad. The women swam very well today and have put themselves in position to challenge for the championship tomorrow. I am really proud of the way we swam today what we were able to accomplish."

The men lead the field with 417 points and hold a narrow, five-point margin over UNLV. The women are in third place with 427 points and UC Davis is the leader with 438 points. 

Finals for the 400 medley relay were the first event of the evening. The women's team of Campbell, Kassandra Bispo, Kimberly Welch Doroghian and Andrea Grant finished in third place with a time of 3:41.13 to go along with the men's school record.

Alexandra Dodds finished third in the 400 IM with a time of 4:20.08. Alia Welsh won the consolation finals with a time of 4:22.39 and Jessica Ampuero finished third with a time of 4:25.90.

Alexandria Sorensen and Doroghian qualified for the finals of the 100 fly with Doroghian finishing in third with a time of 53.17 and Sorensen finishing in sixth place with a time of 55.01. On the men's side, Armstrong finished in seventh with a time of 48.30 and Fletcher won the consolation finals with a time of 48.78.

Freshman Natalie Bennion finished in sixth place in the 200 free with a time of 1:50.99. Grant finished seventh in the consolation finals with a time of 1:53.60. Stott Bushnell won the consolation finals for the men with a time of 1:38.28. Joining him in the consolation finals were Garret Beaman who placed second with a time of 1:38.62 and Samuel Bates who finished sixth with a time of 1:40.07.

Bispo finished fifth in the 100 breast finals with a time of 1:02.56 and Mallory Harris placed seventh in the consolation finals with a time of 1:05.27. Wells finished eighth in the finals on the men's side with a time of 55.38 and Andrew Rutherfurd finished second in the consolation finals with a time of 55.08.

In the 100 back, the men placed three swimmers in the top five. Jenkins placed third with a time of 47.63, Payton Sorenson placed fourth with a time of 48.74 and Jordan Fletcher placed fifth with a time of 48.97. Ciera Marsh placed second in the consolation finals with a time of 55.96.

"The guys and the girls stepped up big today," Brooks said. "They will both need to dig deep tomorrow and swim like they know how to. It will be an exciting day of swimming tomorrow and we look to come out on top."

The final day of action at the MPSF Swimming Championships will begin tomorrow at 10 a.m. PST with the women's 200 back prelims. Prelims for the women's 100 free, 200 breast and 200 fly will take place tomorrow in preparation for the finals which begin at 6 p.m. PST.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -   Nicholas Suder followed up his win in the 3-meter yesterday with a win in the 1-meter tonight at the MPSF Diving Championships at the Air Force Academy.

Suder qualified in fourth place for the finals and jumped up to the top of the podium with a finals score of 328.65. Matt Hopper won the 1-m consolation finals with a score of 309.35 with David Corless finishing in fourth with a score of 275.65 and Trayton Speth finishing in sevent with a score of 260.75.

Dayna Christensen, Raleigh Williams Taylor and Mackenzie Rands all qualified for the women's 3-meter finals and placed in the top five. Christensen placed second with a score of 298.80, Taylor finished fourth with a score of 292,25 and Rands placed fifth with a score of 260.15. Haley Francois won the consolation finals with a score of 256.55.

The MPSF Diving Championships will end tomorrow with the platform. The men will start with prelims beginning at 11 a.m. MST, with finals at 12:25 p.m. and consolation finals at 1:10 p.m. After a short break, the women's prelims will begin at 2:55 p.m. with finals at 3:50 p.m. and consolation finals at 4:30 p.m.  

PROVO, Utah - The BYU men's and women's swimming and diving teams look to repeat as champions in the MPSF Championships this weekend, Wednesday through Saturday. The swimming championships will take place at East Los Angeles College in Monterey Park, Calif., and the diving championships will take place at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Both the men and the women return to the meet as conference champions. The men won the championship last year with a score of 625, beating second place UNLV (603.5) and Wyoming (556). The women won with a score of 732 with UC Santa Barbara finishing in second and University of California Davis coming in at third place.

Preston Jenkins carries the second-ranked conference time this year in the 100 back (47.86) and the 200 back (1:44.32), both NCAA 'B cuts. Nicholas Suder holds the top score for the men's three-meter (355.55) in the MPSF.

Hailey Campbell has the second fastest time in the 100 back ('B cut 1:04.75). Campbell currently is the championship meet record holder in both the 100 back (53.47) and the 200 back (1:55.46). Diver Dayna Christensen holds both the one-meter and three-meter record in the MPSF, and has the top score for the three-meter this season (340.65).

Multiple relay teams hold the second-fastest times for both the men and the women.
