PROVO -- The BYU women's basketball team completed the non-conference season in Provo with a lopsided win 77-50 against the Portland State Vikings Saturday at the Marriott Center.

A game in which it never trailed, BYU overwhelmed the Vikings from start to finish and shot 52% from the field in an all-around team effort.

Junior Ambrosia Anderson, who had a game-high 16 points, was one of three Cougars to score in double figures. Senior Kristen Kozlowski scored 13 points in just 12 minutes, making perfect on all six shot attempts. Senior Danielle Cheesman had a game-high eight rebounds and nine points.

Sophomore Dani Kubik provided a spark off the bench and scored a season-high 13 points and hauled in six rebounds.

"I thought Kubik played really well tonight," said head coach Jeff Judkins. "She's a real force both defensively and offensively for us. She is by far the most improved player on the team."

Getting off to a quick start, the Cougars scored on their first five possessions and never looked back, leading 10-4. Kozlowski led all scorers at the half with 10 points. The sharp-shooting Cougars shot 68% from the field, and held the Vikings to just 26.9% and scoreless during a nearly five-minute period towards the end of the half.

With the victory, BYU improves to 9-4 overall, 7-1 at home. After a successful start in the non-conference season, BYU is ready to see if it can continue the strong play against more familiar conference foes.

"We're ready to get going on the conference," added Judkins. "One of our goals is to win the conference. I think we've done some good things this pre-season against some good teams."

Conference play begins against Wyoming, Thursday, January 13th at 7 p.m., at the Marriott Center, where the Cougars have won three straight games.

BYU's women's basketball defeated the Bobcats of Montana St. University 80-42, Tuesday, at the Marriott Center.

The Cougars took advantage of their obvious size advantage in outrebounding the Bobcats 49-30 that included 18 offensive rebounds leading to 21 second-chance points. BYU dominated inside, scoring 32 points in the paint.

Defensively, BYU came out strong to start the game keeping Montana St., scoreless until the 16:01 mark in the first half and the Bobcats didn't score again until the 7:14 mark.

Kristen Kozlowski posted her seventh double-figure scoring game of the season with 14 points while Nancy Seljaas came off the bench to score 14 points and set a new season high. Lauren Riley also had a season and career high six rebounds. Teammate Dani Kubik playing in her second game of the year scored nine points and grabbed four rebounds.

Player Injury Report

Junior forward Jennie Keele will get a medical redshirt for the rest of this season. The injury she suffered to her foot on the first day of practice is not complete healed. She's only been able to play for a few minutes at a time. To date, she's played in six games.

About Portland State University

The Vikings finish out their non-conference schedule playing the Cougars on Saturday afternoon. So far this year they've tallied a 2-9 record with wins over UC Irvine and Utah State College. Sophomore guard Heather Arns leads the Vikings in scoring with 12.5 points and a team high 5.1 rebounds a game. Heidi Stuart and Delaney Conway also contribute to Portland State's offensive effort with 9.9 points from Stuart and 9.3 from Conway. The Vikings shoot 35 percent from the field and 64 percent from the free throw line. They score 53.2 points a game and allow opponents to shoot 69.3 points per game.

Last Meeting: The two schools played last year in Portland with the cougars picking up the 82-60 win. The Vikings last played at the Marriott Center in 1988. In that game BYU beat Portland State 103-83.

Head Coach - Jeff Judkins

Overall Record: 66-39, begins his fourth season at BYU.

Under Coach Judkins, the team has gone to back-to-back NCAA appearances as well as to the title games of the MWC Championships, winning the title game in 2001-02.

An all-state selection in basketball, football and baseball, Judkins played basketball for the University of Utah Utah from 1974-78. While playing for the Utes, he helped the team win one conference championship and two berths in the NCAA Tournament.

He was a second-team academic All-American and three-time first-team District VII academic selection. Judkins earned three first-team All-WAC honors and was a member of the 1977 United States World Games team that captured the gold medal.

He played five years in the NBA for the Boston Celtics, Portland Trailblazers, Detroit Pistons and the Utah Jazz. He was a second-round pick by the Celtics in 1978, the same year the Celtics selected Larry Bird with the sixth pick overall.

After his NBA career, he returned to the U of U in 1989, and remained with the men's program for 10 years. Judkins, a Salt Lake City native, graduated from Utah in 1978 with a degree in health and physical education. He is a member of the Utah Sports Hall of Fame and the Crimson Club Hall of Fame.

He and his wife Mary Kay, are the parents of five children: Jessica (24), Jordan (22), Jenna (20), Jaime (17), Jaxson (14).
