PROVO -- The Cougars proved they have the sharpest claws, shredding the Missouri Tigers 196.725-195.525 Monday night in the Smith Fieldhouse.

Tying the season high score, the Cougars secured their third win in a row. BYU is now 6-3.

"We really came together tonight," said senior Trisha Ashton. "We encouraged each other and pulled through together."

The Cougars saw surprisingly strong career-high performances from Ashton, scoring 9.925 on both beam and floor. Freshman Kacie Capra also set career high scores of 9.775 on beam and 9.875 on floor.

"You do it just like in practice," Capra said. "No matter what happens, your team's still there for you when it's over."

BYU coach Brad Cattermole said the team is strong and he's proud of their work.

"When you can have someone exhibition last week and join the line up to score a 9.875 this week, that says something about the team," Cattermole said.

Other strong performances for the Cougars included freshman Marie-Helene Claveau who also set a personal best of 9.925 on floor.

Junior Jaime Mabray was named Cougar of the Meet, taking first in the all-around, scoring a season high of 39.425 with senior Kari Lords taking second with a score of 38.825.

Cattermole said he was pleased with the beam -- the Cougars set a season high of 49.075. The key to the team's success was performance and focus.

"Missouri's an amazing team," he said. "But you can't be worried about how the other team's doing. You just have to focus on your team and what you're doing."

The Cougars will compete against Texas Women's Saturday at 7:00 p.m. in Denton, Texas. The team's final home meet will be against Southern Utah Saturday, March 9 at 7:00 p.m. in the Smith Fieldhouse.

PROVO -- Pull out your bellbottoms, big hair and psychedelic love beads for "FHE Disco Night" to support the Cougars as the gymnastics team prepares to battle No. 10 Missouri in the last of a series of home meets Monday at 8:30 p.m. in the Smith Fieldhouse.

In its last two meets, BYU sank its claws into Utah State and Boise State, dominating Utah State 196.425-195.250, and Boise State 196.725-194.175. BYU, currently 5-3, hopes for a repeat performance, setting consecutive new season highs during each meet.

BYU last competed against Missouri during the Cat Classic in Missouri, with the Cougars taking second place to the Tigers 197.350-196.125. In the individual championship that followed, the teams were evenly matched with Kari Lords taking first on beam (9.950) and on floor (9.900) and Missouri's Alisha Robinson taking first in vault (9.900) and on vault (9.875).
