PROVO -- The BYU women's swim team picked up another win against the New Mexico Lobos Saturday afternoon in the Richards Building Pool with a score of 120.5-107.5.
Although the swimmers were tired from Friday's meet against TCU, which the women lost 134-109, they dominated Saturday's contest winning all 11 events. The Cougars swept the 1000 free and the 100 breast.
"It is always nice to come out with a win," said Coach Stan Crump. "I wasn't too concerned about the times today, but they hung with the competition and finished on top."
First-place finishes came from sophomore U-Nice Chan in the 1000 free (10:45.89) and 100 fly (1:00.27), freshman Leilani Roberts in the 200 free (1:54.87), junior Sarah Woodbury in the 50 free (24.92), sophomore Tara Bradshaw in the 400 IM (4:39.15), sophomore Angela Goodson in the 100 free (53.92), senior Natasha Jones in the Back (59.75), junior Brittany Davis in the 500 free (5:15.11) and sophomore Jamie Bloom in the 100 breast (1:07.92). The 200-medley relay team of Jones, Bloom, Goodson, and Roberts won with a time of 1:48.81, and the 200-free relay team of Roberts, Jones, Rebecca Larson, and Davis won with a time of 1:39.05.
Crump was very pleased with the effort that Brittany Davis put forth. "In the 500 free Brittany really hung with that girl and kept the race close, beating her opponent in the end," he said.
"It's not time for them to rest yet, but when it is, they will perform their best," said Crump.
The divers also competed, splitting the victories in the 1-meter and 3-meter events. The women barely lost to New Mexico in the 1-meter diving competition (10-9), and won the 3-meter 14-5.
The women will be back on the deck January 20, when they will compete against Colorado State at 6:00 p.m. at the Richards Building Pool.

PROVO -- The Cougars will kick off the new year with Mountain West Conference swimming and diving competition at home against the TCU men and women Friday at 6 p.m. and the New Mexico women Saturday at noon at the Richards Building Pool.
The No. 20 BYU men, the only nationally ranked team in the MWC, are looking for redemption after their first loss to Washington, 105-100, last week. The men are currently 6-1 on the season and 1-0 in Mountain West competition.
BYU's women's team has not officially competed since late November when the Cougars finished third out of 21 teams at the Speedo Cup in Long Beach, Calif. The women swam in a non-scored meet over the Christmas break at the Claremont Club in Calif., winning every event but one. Women's swimming coach Stan Crump said the team is ready to jump back into competition.
"We're ready for the Mountain West," said Crump. "We're in great shape. We've just got to pick up some more speed, and when that happens I think we'll be really good."
The divers also kept up their training competing over the holidays, learning new dives and preparing for conference competition.
"I hope they get in there and do what we've worked on," said diving coach Keith Russell. "It's going to be a challenge, but we can take advantage of being at home."
