HONOLULU -- The divers of the BYU swim teams finished their Christmas training competing in the University of Hawaii's Diving Invitational. The Cougars were led by freshman Brandon Watson who took second in all three of his events.
"It was good for us to come out here and compete with all these divers," said BYU head dive coach Keith Russell. "I was proud of our divers and the level of competition they competed at."
Watson led the men's side of the competition place second in the 1-meter (328.05), 3-meter (350.75) and the platform (290.15). Travis Day and Marc Nelson also competed at the invite placing fourth and 11th, respectively, out of 23 divers. In the 3-meter Nelson (242.00) and Day (238.55) took sixth and seventh, respectively.
Angela Nelson led BYU in the 3-meter event placing third (278.15) overall and Emily Woods (241.25), Tawni Jones (229.15) and Ava Jackman (226.15) took eighth, 10th and 11th, respectively. On the 1-meter (276.85) and on the platform (198.00) Jones placed second overall in each of those events.
The divers will join the swimmers back in Provo when the men will compete against the University of Washington on January 13.
