SAN DIEGO – The No. 72 BYU women’s tennis team fell 4-0 to No. 37 Saint Mary’s in the quarterfinals of the West Coast Conference Tournament, Thursday in San Diego.
The Gaels (14-8) outlasted the Cougars (10-12) in doubles play to get on the board first. Jamie Pawid and Kareena Manji of Saint Mary’s secured the first matchup with an 8-2 win over BYU’s Meghan Sheehan-Dizon and Morgan Anderson-Littlewood. Savannah Ware and Nicolette Tran evened the tally at No. 2 doubles where they beat Mary-Anne Jessup and Danielle Flores 8-4.
With doubles hanging in the balance, Parminder Kaur and Jana McCord clinched the point for the Gaels at No. 1, beating Toby Miclat and Brittanie Eraso 8-6.
Saint Mary’s maintained its momentum into singles where they won four consecutive matches in straight sets to complete the 4-0 victory. Pawid beat Miclat 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles before Sheehan-Dizon fell in her matchup at No. 1, 6-1, 7-5 to Flores, pushing the Gaels’ lead to 3-0. Manji won the match for Saint Mary’s at No. 5 singles over Anderson-Littlewood 6-2, 6-4.
The loss ends the Cougars’ season during which they finished fifth in conference and recorded two victories over ranked opponents Houston and New Mexico, who were both ranked No. 37 at the time of each match.

PROVO, Utah – No. 64 BYU women’s tennis heads to San Diego this week to compete in the West Coast Conference tournament Wednesday through Saturday.
The No. 64 women’s team (10-11, 5-4) pulled out a 4-3 win at San Diego last Saturday, on the same courts they will play on this week, to clinch the No. 5 seed and move above .500 in conference play on the season. They will face No. 45 Saint Mary’s (13-8, 7-2), the No. 4 seed, Thursday at noon. With a win, the Cougars would play Friday at 10 a.m. PDT.
BYU played the Gaels’ women’s team in Moraga earlier this season but fell 4-3. The Cougars won the doubles point in the match, but fell in four of the six singles matchups. Junior Nicolette Tran beat then-ranked No. 103 Jana McCord.
