Netters Lose to No. 60 Fresno State

FRESNO -- The BYU women’s tennis team hit another tough loss on the road Thursday, falling 4-3 to No. 60 Fresno State.

The Bulldogs swept doubles play. Elizaveta Ezhova and Desiree Tran fell 8-4 to Melissa McQueen and Olga Kirpicheva on Court 2, followed by Abby Hayley and Laura Pola winning 8-4 against Cougars Elle Carney and Sandy, Utah's Aubrey Paul. The Bulldogs finished the sweep when Bianca Modoc and Marianne Jodoin defeated No. 78 Megan Price and Callie Craig on Court 1 (8-5).

Fresno State put up quick, straight-set wins on courts 1, 2 and 4 to clinch the victory, but Paul, Ezhova and Craig fought hard to give BYU (4-6) the last three points.

Paul pushed her season singles record to 9-1 after Kirpicheva retired from the match due to an injury. The match was split one set all (3-6, 6-2) and Paul led the final set 3-0.

Ezhova took down Modoc 6-2, 2-6, 6-1 on Court 5. After a long battle on Court 3, Callie Craig went to a tiebreaker against Hayley, taking the match 3-6, 6-3, (10-7).

The Cougars face UC Irvine Saturday at 11 a.m. in Irvine.

Women's Tennis Faces Fresno State,UC Irvine

PROVO -- After a week to rest, the BYU women’s tennis team takes on No. 60 Fresno State and UC Irvine Thursday and Saturday, respectively, in California.

The Cougars (4-5) boast No. 78 doubles duo Callie Craig of Orem, Utah, and Megan Price. The pair holds a 15-6 record, including a win against No. 22 Kristi Boxx and Abby Guthrie of Ole Miss.

Freshman Craig leads the team in singles with a 15-9 record. Aubrey Paul leads the Cougars in spring season, with an 8-1 winning record.

Fresno State (2-4) are on a three-game losing streak, losing to Texas A&M, Baylor and SMU last week. UC Irvine has lost its last four games, holding a 2-7 record.

The match at Fresno State begins at 12:30 p.m. Thursday and Saturday’s match at UC Irvine begins at 11 a.m.
