SPOKANE, Wash. – Kicking off its final four matches of the regular season on the road, the BYU women’s tennis team grabbed a 6-1 decision over conference foe Gonzaga Friday.
Senior Megan Price and freshman Meghan Sheehan-Dizon scored a quick 8-3 doubles win for the Cougars (6-12, 2-2 WCC) to open the match. The doubles point came down to Court 2 after the Bulldogs (7-6, 1-3 WCC) evened the score with an 8-5 win over junior Aubrey Paul and freshman Lisa Waldron on Court 3. Freshman Morgan Anderson and sophomore Desiree Tran edged out Kylie Peek and Sophie Lantta, 8-5, to give the Cougars the first point of the match.
Gonzaga managed one singles point over BYU, coming on Court 6 over junior Andie Young. The Cougars took the remaining five singles matches. Katie Edwards pushed Anderson to a third set but was unable to top the Cougar as Anderson walked away with a 6-1, 1-6, 6-0 win. Tran quickly put up another BYU win after topping Prue Teitzel in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3, on Court 1.
Playing at the No. 3 singles position, Sheehan-Dizon gave the Cougars their fourth point and match win with a 6-3, 7-5 decision over Kristina Zauere.
Price and Paul earned BYU’s last two wins. Price won a 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 battle on Court 4 before Paul topped her Court 5 opponent 6-4, 6-4 to wrap up the match.
The Cougars continue conference action Saturday against Portland at 11 a.m. PDT.

PROVO, Utah – The BYU women’s tennis team continues conference play on the road as it takes on Gonzaga and Portland, Friday and Saturday, respectively.
"We had a couple weeks here which was nice," BYU coach Lauren Jones-Spencer said. "We treat each match the same, whether it's a home match or on the road. The team has been practicing hard so that our matches will be easier. We're working on a few key things to help us close out our matches."
In their final home match of the season last Friday, the Cougars (5-12, 1-2 WCC) dropped a close 4-3 decision to then-No. 34 Saint Mary’s.
Freshman Meghan Sheehan-Dizon moved to 7-0 at home this season with her straight-set win over Jade Frampton of Saint Mary’s. Sheehan-Dizon leads the team with a 20-10 overall singles record and has a team-best 9-6 doubles record with senior Megan Price.
Gonzaga (7-5, 1-2 WCC) is led by Kylie Peek with a 13-8 overall singles record. The Bulldogs broke a three-match losing streak last weekend with a 5-2 win over Portland.
With a 4-3 loss to Idaho on April 1, the Pilots (4-11, 0-2 WCC) are on a six-match losing streak.
Anastasia Polyakova leads the team with a 12-8 overall singles record.
The Cougars take on Gonzaga at 10 a.m. PDT Friday before traveling to Portland for an 11 a.m. PDT match Saturday.
