Williams, Langi set to play in Reese's Senior Bowl on Saturday

PROVO, Utah – BYU seniors Jamaal Williams and Harvey Langi will play in the prestigious Reese’s Senior Bowl this Saturday, Jan. 28, in Mobile, Alabama, at Ladd-Peebles Stadium. The game will be televised live on the NFL network at 1:30 p.m. CST/12:30 p.m. MST.

Williams, a running back, and Langi, a linebacker and defensive end, were invited to participate after putting together strong senior seasons. Williams and Langi will play for the South Team in Mobile, where they have been practicing since Tuesday preparing for Saturday's matchup against the North Team.

The Senior Bowl, college football’s premier senior showcase event, annually features the country’s best senior collegiate football players and top NFL draft prospects on teams coached by the entire coaching staffs of two National Football League teams. The Cleveland Browns (South Team) and Chicago Bears (North Team) coaching staffs are serving as coaches for the 2017 Reese's Senior Bowl and have spent the entire week working with the two rosters of draft prospects in preparation for the game on Saturday. Representatives from all 32 NFL teams send scouts, coaches and personnel executives to the event for interviews with players, on-field evaluations, physical measurements and more. 

One of the nation’s top running backs in 2016, Williams was ranked No. 5 nationally in rushing yards per game (137.5) while totaling 1,375 yards on the year despite missing three games due to injury. During the season, Williams became the school's all-time rushing leader in BYU's win over Mississippi State and finished the year with with 3,901 career rushing yards. He also set BYU's single-game rushing record this season with a 286-yard performance in a victory over Toledo. Williams, a team captain, finished his career with the program's most games of 100 or more rushing yards with 16. In his final game at the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl against Wyoming, Williams led BYU to victory by rushing for 210 yards and was named the game's offensive MVP.

Seeing time on both defense and offense, Langi served as a team captain and played four different positions for the Cougars during his senior season: defensive end, middle linebacker, outside linebacker and running back. On the year, he contributed 57 tackles (fourth on the team), 5.0 TFL, 2.0 sacks, two pass breakups and two quarterback hurries. On offense, he ran for 79 yards and two touchdowns. Langi was named the defensive MVP of the Poinsettia Bowl after notching a career-best 16 tackles in the win.
