Taylor wins another First-Team All-American honor

ATLANTA – Jake Taylor finished his season strong by earning another first-team All-America honor in the 200-yard backstroke to wrap the NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships Saturday at the McAuley Aquatic Center in Atlanta.

“Jake came out sixth and All-American so that's very exciting,” BYU head coach John Brooks said. “The most impressive thing is that we have three returned missionaries at this meet, who took two years off. Add that to the facilities that we have, to do what we did compared to everyone else at the NCAA Championships, who have unbelievable facilities, is pretty amazing. Our athletes are dedicated to this university, and finishing in the top 25 is awesome for us. This is one of the fastest meets on the planets and I’m just happy that we can have swimmers here and compete.”

Taylor earned the sixth fastest time in the 200 back preliminaries with a 1:39.42 to reach the event finals. He then scored big in the final event, posting a 1:39.93 for sixth place and earning another First-Team All-America citation.

Payton Sorenson also swam in the preliminaries of the 100 freestyle, clocking a 43.57, but missing the finals.

With Taylor’s scores today, the men’s team finished the meet at No. 21. This wraps the 2015-2016 BYU Swim and Dive season.
