Swim Teams Face PAC-10 schools UW and OSU, Divers Head to Arizona Invite
PROVO, Utah (January 8, 2002) The BYU men's and women's swimming teams will travel to Seattle, WA to face the University of Washington Friday at 6 p.m. PST. On Saturday the men's team will travel home while the women's squad will compete at Oregon State on Saturday at 4 p.m. PST. Both the men's and women's divers will travel to Tuscon, Ariz. to compete in the annual Arizona Invite all day Friday and Saturday.
The women's team is 3-1 so far this season and has not competed since the Speedo Cup in late November. Last season the women's team defeated Washington 131-108. The women's team saw Oregon State (5-2 overall) finish second at the Speedo Cup after finishing two places behind them in fourth place.
"Washington has improved from last season," said women's head swim coach Stan Crump concerning Friday's meet. "Oregon State is a top team but we expect this meet to be much closer than the Speedo Cup."
The men's team is 3-0 in dual meets this season and hold a 19 consecutive dual meet winning streak dating back to the 1999-2000 season. Last season the men's team defeated Washington 142-95. The men placed second at the Speedo Cup behind No. 1 Stanford and look forward to competing again after spending Christmas training in Hawaii.
