Cougars travel to the islands to face Hawaii

The men's swimming team will have an early meet with the University of Hawaii in Honolulu Saturday morning. The Cougars hope to continue their rise in the polls after the meet.

BYU will look for strong performances to come from senior Kenny Carpenter and sophomore Mark Chay. Chay, who swam with Singapore in last summer's Olympic games has excelled for the Cougars with several top place finishes on the season. Carpenter brings strong leadership to the team along with individual wins in several events this season.

Hawaii will be led by junior Andrew Affleck and fellow junior Thomas Winkler. The twosome capture four individual wins between them in the Rainbow Warrior's previous meet against Texas A&M and Wisconsin.

"Hawaii is always tough at home," said head coach Tim Powers, "they changed the time on us from Friday to Saturday, but I think we will be alright."

The Cougars are currently ranked no. 20 in the nation according to the latest poll posted by the Collegiate Swimming Coaches Association of America, while the Rainbow Warriors are currently ranked no. 22.
