HONOLULU -- After a week of rigorous training the BYU men's swim team competed against the Purdue Boilermakers in an open-water relay swim. Despite the fact that the distances were unknown and the event wasn't scored, the Cougars finished one, two in the competition.

"It was fun to swim in an event like this," said BYU men's head swim coach Tim Powers. "Basically, it was a five-man relay event where each swimmer circled the buoy and came back."

BYU spent the week in Hawaii for its Christmas training program and decided to have a fun competition before they went home.

"I was thankful Purdue was willingly to participate in an event like this." Said Coach Powers.

The Cougars return to competition and face the Washington Huskies on Jan. 13. It will be their first dual meet in two months and will be the last non-conference meet before BYU begins its Mountain West Conference schedule.
