PROVO -- The Stanford diving team will be guests on campus to take on the BYU divers in the annual Stanford vs. BYU diving meet Friday at 11 a.m. in the Richards Building pool.

“It’s going to be a wonderful experience,” said BYU diving coach Keith Russell. “We have good divers and they have good divers, so it’s going to be a great opportunity to dive against a quality team.”

Coming off of wins on both the men’s and the women’s sides against Utah on Feb. 6, the dive team helped the swim team to come out on top.

Ron Morris, a native of La Palma, Calif., was the Cougars' top male diver against Utah. The sophomore captured first place on the 1-meter springboard with a score of 324.75, and also finished first on the 3-meter board with a mark of 346.43.

The men’s 1-meter competition was taken by the Cougars in the first, second, fourth and fifth places with Morris on top. Sam Hatch followed him with 284.92 points. Morris and the rest of the men’s team would sweep the first four places on the 3-meter board, putting the men up by 10 points to end the meet.

For his performance in that meet, Morris was also named Mountain West Conference Diver of the Week.

Also against Utah, All-American diver Tawni Jones took second on the 3-meter competition with a score of 279.83, while Ava Jackman took the 1-meter competition with a score of 278.70.

“We really appreciate Stanford coming out here every year,” said Russell. The BYU divers encourage your attendance at 11 a.m. on Friday in the Richards Building pool.
