On The Road At Gonzaga This Week

Riding a five-game winning streak, the Cougar women’s basketball team (8-3) takes to the road for a game in the state of Washington.

BYU will battle Gonzaga (8-3) in Spokane on Tues. Dec. 20 at 6 p.m. PT.

ABOUT BYU

The Cougars are led in scoring by senior guard Mindy Bonham who averages 13.0 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. Senior forward Coriann Fraughton follows contributing 10.3 points and a team high 6.4 rebounds per contest.

Senior guard Haley Hall leads the way in the assist category with a total of 51 for a 4.6 average per game and in steals with 26 to date.

Jazmine Foreman has the team’s best free throw percentage at .833, 20-24 while junior center Kristen Riley is tops in the field goal percentage category at .551, 38-69.

TWO RETURN TO WASHINGTON

Two Cougar players return to their home state of Washington in the upcoming matchup with Gonzaga. Jazmine Foreman hails from Vancouver and Coriann Fraughton is from Basin City.

-- BYU head coach Jeff Judkins has compiled an 188-102 record as of Dec. 19 and is 12 wins away from picking up his 200th career victory.

-- Senior guard Mindy Bonham has tallied 1,023 points and becomes the 20th player to join BYU’s elite 1,000-point club.

-- Bonham has dished out a total of 343 assists as of 12/19/10. She ranks ninth all-time, and needs four more to tie for eighth place with Melinda Johnsen who dished out a total of 347.

-- Jazmine Foreman has 331 career assists as of 12/19/10. She needs six to tie Sullivan’s record of 337, which would place her in a tie for 10th place all-time.

GONZAGA UNIVERSITY

The Bulldogs are on a six-game winning streak with a 8-3 record. Gonzaga returns two starters and 10 letterwinners from last year’s team that went 25-5, 14-0 advancing to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen. The Bulldogs have three players scoring in double figures with a team high 19.3 points from 6-1 forward Katelan Redmon who also grabs 6.1 rebounds per game. She’s followed by Courtney Vandersloot who contributes 18.6 points and 3.6 rebounds and has dished out a team high 106 assists and 34 steals on the season. Rounding out the double digit scoring for Gonzaga is 6-2 junior forward Kayla Standish who puts up 14.1 points and grabs a team high 7.6 boards a game. Head coach Kelly Graves is in his 11th season with the women’s basketball team.

The Bulldogs compete in the West Coast Conference, the league that BYU will be part of beginning the 2011-12 sport season.

Last Meeting

The last time these two teams met was at the end of the 2004-05 season when BYU travel to Spokane to play the Bulldogs in the Postseason WNIT. Gonzaga won the game 71-57.
