BYU travels to face five-time MRGC Champions, Boise State

PROVO, Utah – Traveling for the second week in a row, the No. 15 Cougars head to the ExtraMile Arena in Boise, Idaho, to face MRGC rival Boise State on Friday, Jan. 31, at 7 p.m. MST.

BYU vs. Boise State Meet Notes

The Cougars will take on the 2019 MRGC Champions in the first of two scheduled regular-season meets against the Broncos this season. Last season. BYU hosted Boise State in Provo on Feb. 15, falling 197.175-196.900. Weeks later on March 7, the Cougars achieved their highest score of the 2019 season, a 197.000, topping BSU's 196.325 in ExtraMile Arena. This stood as the first time that the Cougars beat the Broncos in Boise since 2007.

At the end of the season at the MRGC Championships, Boise State took home its fifth-straight conference title (196.950.)

THE COUGARS. Last week, the Cougars faced Southern Utah in Cedar City, Utah, on Jan. 24, collecting their highest score not only during head coach Guard Young’s time but also since 2004, a 197.075. For the third week in a row, junior Abbey Miner acquired the MRGC Gymnast of the Week award with her all-around score of 39.350. Senior All-American Shannon Evans returned to floor for the first time post-injury, earning a 9.900 and MRGC Floor Specialist of the Week, in addition to Co-Vault Specialist (9.875.)

THE BRONCOS. Currently ranked No 28, the 2019 MRGC Champions started the season with two road losses, facing both UCLA and the University of Washington. However, on Jan. 26, the Broncos swept a tri-meet against San Jose State and Seattle Pacific, achieving the team’s season high of 195.525. The MRGC awarded junior Emily Muhlenhaupt the honor of Bars Specialist of the Week for the second time this season for her 9.975 performance on Sunday, tying the MRGC record. She is also ranked No. 3 in the nation on the apparatus.
