Cougars Post Solid Scores in Tough Tri-Meet

DURHAM -- The BYU gymnastics team opened its season posting solid scores in a tough tri-meet against the University of New Hampshire and the University of Pittsburg Saturday evening. The Cougars final score of 191.200 fell between UNH's 192.400 and Pitt's 190.075.

"It was a good meet to get out of the way," said BYU assistant coach Dawn Cattermole. "We had to adapt to a different environment, and we realized we still have a couple of kinks to work out."

BYU had a rough start, beginning with the floor. Sophomore Heidi Poulson's 9.625 topped the Cougar squad as the team finished 47.475 on the event. The Cougars tumbled their way to a 47.325 on vault, with both sophomores Danielle Goldman and Megan Donehue landing a 9.575 on the apparatus.

Moving to the uneven bars, BYU's strongest event of the night, the Cougars scored 48.325 as a team. Draper-Marvin led the Cougars on bars posting a 9.825, the highest individual score of the night for BYU.

At the beam, the final event of the night for BYU, the Cougars posted 48.075, with senior Alethea Boon and junior Hayley Jensen leading the squad, scoring 9.750 respectively.

BYU will continue its season on the road as the team travels to Southern Utah University Friday to face Cal State Fullerton and Boise State. The meet starts at 7 p.m. MT.
