PROVO -- The BYU gymnastics team will compete in its final road meet of the season this Friday as the Cougars travel north to take on Utah State. The competition will mark BYU’s third road meet in eight days.

“It’s taken some time, but I think we’re really starting to put some things together and perform consistently,” said BYU head coach Brad Cattermole. “We want to end the year on a high note and start building for next year.”

Cattermole’s team has experienced more than its fair share of adversity this season as six competing gymnasts were lost to season-ending injuries or illness. The adversity has resulted in rotation shake-ups on every event but has also helped a young BYU squad gain experience. The Cougars roster five juniors, three sophomores and 11 freshmen, but seven of those newcomers have competed this season.

BYU is coming off a rare Monday night meet at Denver where the team posted its top bars score of the year (48.575) while posting an overall tally of 192.500. Junior beam specialist Kaylee Gallup had the high mark of the meet with a career-high 9.875 on the beam. Several other Cougars also posted career highs to help BYU top the 192 mark for just the fourth time this year.

Utah State enters the meet with a season-high score of 193.600. The Cougars and Aggies met previously this year in a quad meet hosted by BYU. The home team finished second while USU placed third, 1.2 points behind the Cougars.

Fans can follow all the action from Friday’s meet with live stats and a live Internet video stream. Links to both can be found by going to the schedule page of the BYU women’s gymnastics homepage at www.byucougars.com/gymnastics_w.
