Women's Swimming and Diving to Compete in Two Home Meets
PROVO -- The BYU women's swimming and diving team will resume MWC competition this weekend when it takes on Colorado State on Jan. 16 and New Mexico on Jan. 17 at the Richards Building pool.
Coach Stan Crump said he is looking forward to competing against Colorado State and New Mexico this weekend and that the meet will help him gauge how far his team has progressed this year.
"They (Colorado State) are awful good," Crump said. "They are the coaches pick to win the conference. We beat them at the Speedo Cup in November, but they didn't bring all of their swimmers."
Crump also said he is optimistic about how his team will swim this weekend and it will help the team prepare for the conference championships later this year.
"CSU is the team we have to beat if we want to win the conference," Crump said.
The Cougars competed against the Claremont Swim Club over the Christmas break, but haven't faced NCAA competition since the Speedo Cup in November. Crump said the long layoff may be a problem since his team has been training extra hard over the break, which may result in slower times initially.
Friday's meet against the Rams will start at 6 p.m. while Saturday's meet against the Lobos will begin at 12 p.m. Admission is free to the public.
