Tough Weekend Ahead for Women's Team

PROVO -- After six-straight dual meet wins during the 2009-10 undefeated season, the BYU women’s swim team (6-0, 3-0 MWC) is ready to take on San Diego State (10-1, 4-1 MWC) Thursday at 5 p.m. and Colorado State (5-0, 4-0 MWC) Friday at 6 p.m. at the Richards Building Pool.

“San Diego has gone from a not-so-serious contender to a serious contender in one year,” said BYU head coach Tim Powers. “They have a brand new 50-meter pool and brought in the third-best recruiting class in the nation this past year. With Washington dropping their swimming program, that has made SDSU pick up a lot of their swimmers.”

San Diego State’s only conference loss came to Colorado State early in the season when it traveled from sea level to Ft. Collins for a mile-high meet experience.

“We hope that will be a good advantage for our swimmers who practice at high altitude every day,” said Powers.

Colorado State comes in with a wealth of experience and will provide a tough challenge for the Cougar women.

“We have a chance to help our program this weekend if we perform well,” said Powers. “Everybody knows that we are tough contenders and will put up a fight. Colorado State will come in with the advantage that they will not be swimming in a meet the day before. We expect our kids to bounce back on Friday, so we’ll see if they can do that.”

Both days will consist of a 16-event schedule, swimming the same events both days.
