PROVO, Utah--With the promise of a new season and new outlook, the BYU women’s tennis team plays its first match of the season on the road at Tulsa this Saturday at 9:30 a.m. CST.

“We’re eager to get started this season,” BYU head coach Lauren Jones-Spencer said. “The girls have worked hard over the break and are excited to start competing. It’s great to see such a hard-working group of girls.”

The Cougars aim to improve upon their 2013 season which saw them go 10-11 and post a 3-5 record in West Coast Conference play.

This season the team will be reinvigorated with the addition of five freshmen, but balanced with the poise of the upperclassmen. Garnering a No.7 Mountain Region ranking in singles, freshman Mayci Jones highlights the class of newcomers which was ranked in the top 15 in the nation.

Junior Meghan Sheehan-Dizon is ranked in the Mountain Region in singles, coming in at No. 14. During the fall she compiled a 7-3 record while winning the singles and doubles in the BYU Invitational in September.

BYU is 2-0 all-time against Tulsa.

The Cougars will be on the road for their first four matches of the season, before returning for the home opener Saturday, Feb. 15, against No. 62 Denver at the Indoor Tennis Courts.
