No. 64 BYU travels south for matches against No. 50 Yale, No. 28 Arizona State

PROVO, Utah -- After a thrilling 4-3 home victory to begin West Coast Conference play, No. 64 BYU women’s tennis will take its momentum to Tempe, Ariz., for matchups against No. 50 Yale Friday at 1:30 p.m. MDT and No. 28 Arizona State Saturday at noon.

 

“We are looking forward to playing two good teams,” BYU head coach Lauren Jones-Spencer said. “Coming out of last weekend, we are looking to build off those matches, to play solid tennis and to keep improving.”

 

The Cougars (4-4) head into this weekend having won two in a row when they face the 4-5 Bulldogs (0-0 Ivy) and the 11-2 Sun Devils (1-0 Pac-12). 

 

Last weekend against San Francisco, the match came down to the wire at No. 6 singles between freshman Savannah Ware and Brooke Irish. Ware jumped out with a quick start by taking the first set 6-4, before the momentum shifted as she lost the second 6-0. Finding herself in a 5-2 hole, the Southern California native strung together a five-game run, winning 7-5 as she simultaneously clinched the WCC opening victory for BYU.

The Cougars return home next week for three matches in three days beginning March 20. They will face No. 65 Marshall followed by WCC opponents Pacific and No. 34 Saint Mary’s.
