TEMPE, Ariz. -- Despite taking the doubles point, No. 64 BYU women's tennis suffered a tough loss at the hands of No. 50 Yale, 6-1, Friday.
"We made good progress in doubles today," BYU head coach Lauren Jones-Spencer said. "Yale is a good team and they competed better than us in singles."
The Cougars (4-5) took two out of three doubles matches against the Bulldogs (5-6).
In second doubles, freshmen Mayci Jones and Toby Miclat dominated their opponents for an 8-1 win. Nicolette Tran and Desiree Tran had almost the opposite fortune with an 8-2 loss No. 1 doubles.
At third doubles, juniors Meghan Sheehan-Dizon and Morgan Anderson clinched the point for BYU with an 8-7(4) win against Amber Li and Annie Sullivan.
In singles, four out of six matches went to three sets, but momentum from doubles did not equate to success.
Jones, Sheehan-Dizon and Desiree Tran each took the first set of their matches before falling in the final two.
Freshman Savannah Ware also fell in three sets to Courtney Amos 6-2, 2-6, 6-3.
The Cougars will be back in action against No. 28 Arizona State at noon MST Saturday. Live scoring will be available on the BYU athletics website.
