BYU Men's Tennis Players Dominate Utah Intercollegiate

Singles Play

With all four semi-finalists from BYU and Cougar Damien Ward eventually winning the singles championship, the BYU men's tennis team dominated competition at the University of Utah Intercollegiate Tournament last weekend.

Ward defeated teammate Nic Losee 7-6, 6-2 to take the title after Losee knocked off top-seeded Gert Vilms 0-6, 6-2, 6-3, in the semifinal.

BYU's Anton Rudjuk won the second round losers consolation and Jeff Harbach won the first round losers consolation.

Doubles Play

On the doubles side it was more BYU. The team of Losee and Carlos Lozano, seeded second going into the tournament, upset top-seeded Ward/Vilms, 8-5, to take the doubles tournament.

Ward and Vilms To Play In ITA All-American Championships

Despite being upset in the Utah Intercollegiate Tournament, the doubles team of Damien Ward and Gert Vilms will travel to Austin, Texas, to participate in the ITA All-American Championships. Their first round match was against Kyle Kliegerman and Ahn Liu from Princeton today at 12:30 p.m. MST. The tournament will run through Monday.

Men To Play In Rolex Region VII Tournament Later This Month

The men's tennis team will travel to Las Vegas later this month to participate in the Rolex Region VII Tournament starting Oct. 27 and running through Oct. 31.

Brigham Young Women's Tennis Player Wins BYU Invitational

In the first tournament of the season, BYU's Eline Chiew defeated Erica Perkins of Washington State 7-6 (7-5), 6-1, to win the first flight championship. Chiew advanced to the second round of the T. Rowe Price National Intercollegiate Clay Court Tennis Championships in September. Five other Cougars played in their flight's championship, although Chiew was the only victorious one.

Women Preparing For ITA Riviera All-American Tournament

After enjoying success in the BYU Invitational last week, the women's tennis team will travel to the ITA Riviera All-American Hardcourt Championships Oct. 19-24, in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
