LEWISTON -- In the first of a two-day road trip, the BYU women's tennis team beat the Cougars of Washington State University 5-2. BYU moves to 3-0 on the season.

Scoring the first point for the BYU Cougars was duo Rebecca Pike and Lu Oswald toppling Nelly Dvornicka and Zsofia Fodor in an impressive 8-2 finish. Freshmen Lauren Jones and Sofia Holden also had a key win contributing to the first point for BYU.

Top seeded Cougar doubles team Barbora Zahnova and Hadley Macfarlane fell to WSU's Chris Martinez and Lorena Arias in a close 8-6 competition.

In singles play the BYU Cougars came out strong posting four wins over the Cougars of Washington State. In a come-from-behind win, Jones rallied back to defeat Amy Toth 7-6, 4-6, 6-3.

In another three-set match, Rebecca Pike also fought to finish off her opponent with a thrilling tiebreaker to seal the win for BYU.

"I am pretty happy with this win, because they [WSU] are a good team," head coach Craig Manning said. "It's always hard to win on the opponents home court. We executed well and I'm proud of the way our team played. But got another tough one tomorrow."

The women's tennis team continues its two-day road trip as it faces the Washington Huskies tomorrow at 10:30 a.m.
