Road loss for the Cougars

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The BYU women’s tennis team suffered a 7-0 loss to No. 23 Texas A&M Thursday in its first of three matches in Texas.

In doubles, Texas A&M (7-1) took all the matches. On Court 1, Aggies Cristina Sanchez-Quintanar and Wen Sun defeated BYU senior Megan Price and freshman Meghan Sheehan-Dizon, 8-4. Freshman Morgan Anderson teamed up with junior Aubrey Paul for the first time this spring for BYU (2-6). The duo fell on Court 2, 8-3, while sophomore Desiree Tran and freshman Lisa Waldron dropped their match by the same score.

Sanchez-Quintanar, ranked No. 4 in singles in the nation, made quick of BYU’s Price, 6-1, 6-0, on Court 2 for the Aggies first singles win. Waldron dropped her match to Sheri Olivier on Court 6, 6-1, 6-2. Texas A&M secured the match win when No. 86 Sun topped Anderson, 6-1, 6-4, at the No. 3 singles position.

The Aggies completed the sweep with wins on courts 5, 4 and 1.

The Cougars continue match play in Texas, taking on No. 47 Rice University Friday at 11 a.m. and SMU Saturday at 3 p.m.
