Stewart and Brown qualify for NCAA Championships

AUSTIN, Texas – A rainy day two of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field West Preliminary at Mike A. Myers Stadium saw two members of the BYU women’s track and field team earn a trip to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore. Competitors were forced to sit and wait due to a 6 hour and 15 minute rain delay.

Natalie Stewart turned in a career performance to qualify for nationals in the 400 meters. Stewart ran the race in a personal record time of 52.97 seconds and finished fourth in her heat, just missing automatic qualification by one quarter of a second. She claimed her spot at the NCAA Championships by turning in the best time among non-automatic qualifiers.

After winning her heat and clocking the third-best time in the 800 meters on day one, Kelsey Brown turning in another strong performance to qualify for the NCAA Championships. Brown took second in her heat with a time of 2:05.57 to qualify automatically.

Several other Cougars competed on Friday but did not advance. See results for all of BYU’s competitors below.

Stewart and Brown will compete in the NCAA Championships from June 5 to 8 in Eugene, Ore.
