BYU hopes for more qualifiers at Mt. SAC Relays

PROVO, Utah – BYU track and field will compete in another national meet this weekend at the Mt. SAC Relays hosted by Mount San Antonio College in Walnut, California.

“The Mt. SAC meet is one of the premier meets in the country, particularly for the distance events and the pole vault,” BYU head coach Ed Eyestone said. “Our athletes are excited for the opportunity of running and jumping season best marks and continuing to qualify for the first round of nationals.”

The Mt. SAC Relays will begin Thursday at 6 p.m. PDT and run through Saturday. Live results for the meet can be found on the women’s track and field schedule page.

Athletes to watch

Jason Witt

Witt is making his outdoor season debut after placing fourth overall in the 5000 meters at the 2015 NCAA Indoor National Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Witt was also named a 2015 NCAA Indoor All-American for his fourth-place performance.

Steve Flint

Flint currently holds the nation’s 13th-fastest time in the 5000 meters and fastest by a BYU runner this season. This weekend he'll run in the 3000-meter steeplechase, his strongest event.

Shea Martinez

Martinez is in a tie for the sixth-fastest 800-meter time in the nation this season and will be tested by a competitive field in both the 800 meters and 1500 meters this weekend. Martinez placed seventh overall at the 2015 NCAA Indoor Championships and was named a 2015 NCAA Indoor All-American.

Kelsey Brown-Gilbert

Brown-Gilbert currently holds the nation’s 18th-fastest time in the 800 meters. Having already secured a spot at the West Regionals, Brown-Gilbert hopes to continue her steady improvement and climb higher in the national rankings.
