Cougars begin spring practice and competition

PROVO, Utah – BYU women’s volleyball begins spring practice on Monday, preparing for several off-season matches in March and April.

Spring play will launch close to home with a match at Utah Valley against the Wolverines on March 6 at 1 p.m. MST. The Cougars last played UVU in the 2014 BYU Invitational where the team picked up a 3-0 win.

The Cougars will then travel up the road on March 28 to the University of Utah to take part in an all-day spring tournament, starting at 9 a.m MDT. BYU will follow up that invitational with another one at Utah Valley on April 4, also beginning at 9 a.m.

Following the Wolverine-hosted tournament, the Cougars will return home for their lone home match of the spring against Utah on April 10. BYU last played the Utes in the Deseret First Duel at home where the Cougars picked up a sweep. Utah finished the 2014 season ranked No. 18 after making it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

BYU welcomes three newcomers to the roster for the 2015 season – Sophie Cram, Veronica "Roni" Jones and Kiani Tuileta – after losing four seniors, including starters Jennifer Hamson and Tambre Nobles.

In 2014, the Cougars finished with a 30-5 overall record, finishing first place in the West Coast Conference and advancing to the national championship match for the first time in school history.
