Gray takes WCC Player of the Week honors
PROVO, Utah – Senior outside hitter Alexa Gray took the West Coast Conference Player of the Week honors Monday after leading No. 9 BYU women's volleyball to three wins over the weekend, including a sweep against No. 24 Purdue, to take the Marcia E. Hamilton Classic.
In the first match against Saint Louis, Gray led both teams with 13 kills to go along with four digs, an assist and a block. Then, against No. 24 Purdue, Gray collected a match-high 14 kills on a .333 clip in addition to seven digs and two blocks. Gray played in just the first set against Arkansas-Pine Bluff before being subbed out, but collected a pair of kills, service aces and digs in the win.
For the week, Gray averaged 4.14 kills per set, a .303 clip, 1.86 digs and .43 aces and blocks. For her efforts, she was named the Most Valuable Player at the invitational as well as added to the all-tournament team.
This is Gray's first weekly honor of the season. Last year, Gray took conference player of the week honors on two occasions before being named the WCC Player of the Year.
