No. 16 BYU to face rival No. 24 San Diego in battle of first place

PROVO, Utah – No. 16 BYU women’s volleyball returns home to the Smith Fieldhouse for its lone matchup of the week against rival No. 24 San Diego. With the Cougars one match behind the Toreros, first place in the West Coast Conference standings is on the line.

Last Time Out

BYU (18-3, 8-2 WCC) swept Pepperdine on the road before falling in a five-set heartbreaker at Loyola Marymount. Alexa Gray led the way in both matches, first collecting a double-double on Thursday and then tying a career-high in kills with 27 against the Lions.

No. 24 San Diego

  • The Cougars face off against San Diego (16-6, 9-1 WCC) Friday, Oct. 30, at 5 p.m. MDT.
  • The Toreros lead the overall series 6-5; however, BYU swept San Diego on the road earlier this season to deliver its only league loss.
  • The Toreros have won seven-straight matches since losing to the Cougars, including getting sweeps in five of the last six.
  • San Diego has competed in the NCAA tournament in each of the past five seasons.
