Boswell named CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team

PROVO, Utah – Junior middle blocker Amy Boswell was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Division I First Team, the organization announced Thursday.

Boswell joins Avery Acker of Southern Methodist, who was also named the 2015 CoSIDA Academic All-American of the Year, Sierra Wilson of Alabama, Emma Roberson of Cincinnati, Morgan Bergren of Kentucky and Paige Neuenfeldt of North Carolina on the first team. 

Boswell has earned a 3.90 GPA to date in her nursing major. She was named the 2015 West Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Year after leading the WCC in blocks (1.40 per set) and hitting percentage (.378).

Thirteen of the 18 members of the three academic all-america teams have at least a 3.90 GPA. The six members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.90.

To be nominated, players must have at least a 3.30 GPA and be an important starter or reserve for her team, be at least a sophomore in academic standing and have participated in at least 50 percent of her team's matches.

Boswell previously earned Academic All-District 8 honors this year, but this is her first CoSIDA Academic All-America citation. Boswell is the first Cougar since Nashelle Mackie and Miles Batty in 2012 to earn a First-Team Academic All-America award.

Boswell is the first West Coast Conference student-athlete to capture CoSIDA Academic All-American accolades in the sport of women's volleyball.
