No. 10 BYU travels to Boise State Classic

PROVO, Utah – No. 10 BYU women’s volleyball hits the road for the first time in the 2017 season, traveling to Idaho to compete in the Boise State Classic this week.

The Cougars (3-0) will face off against host Boise State, Missouri and Sacramento State in a three-day invitational.

Boise State

  • BYU faces off against Boise State Thursday, Aug. 31, at 7:30 p.m. MDT at Bronco Gym.
  • The Broncos are 2-1 so far this season, winning their first two matches against North Dakota State and Weber State before falling to host Arizona State in the Sun Devil Classic.
  • Boise State finished 26-7, 16-2 MWC a year ago, falling to Stanford in the second round of the NCAA tournament to end the season.
  • The Cougars are a perfect 7-0 against the Broncos, previously winning last year in three sets.

(RV) Missouri

  • The Cougars play the Tigers Friday, Sept. 1, at 5:30 p.m. MDT at Bronco Gym.
  • Missouri began the season ranked at No. 19 but dropped out of the rankings this week after going 2-2 in the Culver’s Governor’s Challenge – beating Marshall and Middle Tennessee before falling to Northern Iowa and Austin Peay.
  • The Tigers went 26-7, 16-2 SEC last year, falling to Minnesota in the regional semifinals of the NCAA tournament.
  • BYU is 2-2-1 all-time against Missouri, winning the last meeting in 2016 in three sets.

Sacramento State

  • BYU concludes play in the Boise State Classic playing Sacramento State Saturday, Sept. 2, at noon MDT.
  • The Hornets are off to a 3-1 start in 2017, beating UConn, Holy Cross and New Hampshire and falling only to St. John’s.
  • Sacramento State finished 20-12, 13-3 in the Big Sky last year, ending play in the semifinals of the Big Sky Conference Tournament.
  • The Cougars haven’t played the Hornets since 2001 but hold a perfect 3-0 record against them.
