Three Given VolleyballMag.com All-America Recognition
PROVO, Utah – Three members of the 2019 BYU women's volleyball team were recognized on VolleyballMag.com's All-America lists this week.
Senior libero Mary Lake and senior outside hitter McKenna Miller were named to the All-America Third Team while freshman setter Whitney Bower was named All-America honorable mention. Bower was also named a Freshman All-America honorable mention.
Lake, a VolleyballMag.com first-team All-American in 2018 and second-team honoree in 2017, finished her illustrious career as the Cougars' all-time leader in career digs. A four-year starter, Lake was named the West Coast Conference's best defender three years in a row and is currently a member of the U.S. Senior National Team.
A VolleyballMag.com All-America honorable mention the last two seasons, Miller was the 2019 WCC Player of the Year. The senior finished her career sixth in the BYU rally scoring era in kills and points and eighth in sets played.
An All-WCC First Team performer in her first year at BYU, Bower started every set for the Cougars at setter, recording 10 double-doubles on the year. In the program's freshman records, she finished second in aces, fourth in assists, fourth in sets played and eighth in digs.
The Cougars finished 26-5 overall and No. 17 in the polls this season after their eighth-straight NCAA Tournament appearance.
Previously named Volleyball Monthly and Volleyball Magazine, VolleyballMag.com has named All-America teams since the 1970s, giving out 41 All-America honors to the Cougars in that time.
