PROVO -- Hitting the road for the first time in October, the BYU women’s volleyball team will travel to San Diego State Thursday and take on the Aztecs at 7 p.m. before returning to Utah for a 7 p.m. match at Utah Valley University in Orem Saturday.

“We are continuing to work hard and do better,” BYU head coach Shay Goulding said. “We just need to play smarter and error free with a competitive attitude to win. The team still knows they have what it takes, it’s just getting it done.”

Coming off a hard 3-0 loss at home to rival Utah, the Cougars are ready to snap the eight-game losing streak.

Up first will be conference opponent, San Diego State. BYU leads the all-time series 39-17 with the last meeting being a 3-1 win for the Cougars in San Diego. The Aztecs are 7-9 overall, and 2-2 in the Mountain West Conference. They are led by Kyley Sexton on the attack with 190 kills at 3.22 kills per set. SDSU is coming off two road losses against Colorado State and Wyoming.

The Cougars will go to Orem for the first time since the 2006 season. The Wolverines enter play this week with a 9-8 record and a 1-2 Great West Conference record. UVU is led offensively by Kayli Doxey who has 233 kills and is averaging 3.64 kills per set. UVU has lost the last two matches in the Dakotas and will play Weber State and Chicago this week before the Cougars show up Saturday. BYU leads the all-time series against UVU 6-0.

After this week the Cougars will travel to Weber State on Oct. 12 before hosting Air Force on Oct. 14 and UNLV on Oct. 16 at the Smith Fieldhouse.
