Summary
Holmoe came to BYU on a football scholarship in 1978. As a senior in 1982, he earned first-team All-WAC honors, was named honorable mention All-America by Associated Press and played in the Hula Bowl. Over his four-year career as a Cougar, Holmoe had 13 interceptions, which is fifth all-time at BYU.
In 1983, he was selected in the fourth round of the NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers. Over a seven-year NFL career, he played on three Super Bowl championship teams with the 49ers in 1984, 1988 and 1989. After retiring from professional football, Holmoe returned to BYU to serve as a graduate assistant under hall of fame coach LaVell Edwards from 1990-91 and later accepted an offer from hall of fame coach Bill Walsh to become the Stanford secondary coach in 1992, where he remained for two seasons. In 1994, he returned to the 49ers as defensive backfield coach for two seasons, where he earned a fourth Super Bowl ring.

Led the WAC with seven interceptions and was selected All-Academic in the WAC and District Eight ... selected five times as coaches' player of the game with the best performances coming against Utah and Long Beach State.
Selected by the coaches as the most valuable defensive back ... had three interceptions, the longest of which was a 49-yard return vs. UNLV ... scored two TD's, the first coming from a blocked punt at Long Beach Stae ... intercepted a pass and ran 35 yards for a TD in the Holiday Bowl against Washington State ... was the holder for PAT and field goals.
