Before BYU
Prepped at Kenai Central where he lettered three times in football and basketball and four times in track....all-state on offense as a junior and all-state offense and defense as a senior...Northern Lights Defensive Player of the Year and state of Alaska lineman of the year...team co-captain...was all-region in basketball...coached by Jim Beeson (Central Washington).
Saw limited playing time as a freshman...was a reliable backup to John Tait at left tackle.
Started at left tackle in all 11 regular-season games...received coaches award for offensive lineman in game against Virginia.
Named All-Mountain West Conference honorable mention...named to the Las Vegas Review Journal All-Mountain West Conference second-team...participated in spring drills...started nine-of-12 games at right guard as a junior...earned coaches' offensive lineman player-of-the-game honors for performances against Florida State, Mississippi State and Utah State...part of an offensive line that did not allow a single sack in back-to-back games during the season, making the first time the Cougars have not allowed a single sack in consecutive games since the 1985 season...provided pass protection for the top-ranked BYU passing offense, which averaged 274.6 yards per game.
