Born in Anchorage...parents are Ray and Margaret....served an LDS Church mission to Marseilles, France...is an Eagle Scout...likes music...has driven the Al-Can highway many times...recruited by Montana, Stanford, Washington, and Washington St.,...majoring in human biology.

Before BYU

Prepped at Kenai Central where he lettered three times in football and basketball and four times in track....all-state on offense as a junior and all-state offense and defense as a senior...Northern Lights Defensive Player of the Year and state of Alaska lineman of the year...team co-captain...was all-region in basketball...coached by Jim Beeson (Central Washington).

 

BYU Hall of Fame

Freshman Year 1998

Saw limited playing time as a freshman...was a reliable backup to John Tait at left tackle.

Sophmore Year 1999

Started at left tackle in all 11 regular-season games...received coaches award for offensive lineman in game against Virginia. 

Junior Year 2000

Named All-Mountain West Conference honorable mention...named to the Las Vegas Review Journal All-Mountain West Conference second-team...participated in spring drills...started nine-of-12 games at right guard as a junior...earned coaches' offensive lineman player-of-the-game honors for performances against Florida State, Mississippi State and Utah State...part of an offensive line that did not allow a single sack in back-to-back games during the season, making the first time the Cougars have not allowed a single sack in consecutive games since the 1985 season...provided pass protection for the top-ranked BYU passing offense, which averaged 274.6 yards per game.

Senior Year 2001

Started all 14 games for the Cougars as a senior...played every offensive line position during the season...played both tackle and guard against Tulane...a member of the 2001 MWC Championship team...helped BYU to a 12-2 record during the season, including a streak of 12 straight wings...earned coaches award for his performance against Nevada, New Mexico and Wyoming...earned Honorable Mention All-MWC honors...allowed just one sack on the season...a significant contributor for the top-ranked offense in the nation (averaging 46.8 points and 542.8 yards per game)...provided protection for Heisman Trophy candidate Brandon Doman, who threw for over 3,500 yards...a key blocker for Doak Walker Award winner Luke Staley, who scored 28 touchdowns and rushed for 1,596 yards on the season...named the 2001 BYU Football Offensive Utility Player of the Year.
