HENDERSON, Nev. – Carson Lundell overcame an early triple-bogey to card a 67 and move into third individually, while leading the BYU men’s golf team to a 279 in the second round of the WCC Championship at Reflection Bay Golf Course on Friday.

“Carson played unbelievable golf on the last 16 holes,” said head coach Bruce Brockbank. “Six birdies and an eagle! That’s great stuff!”

Despite the triple-bogey on the par-4 second hole, Lundell eagled the seventh hole and made birdies on holes six and eight to regroup on the front. Four straight birdies on holes 12 through 15 helped Lundell to a two-day total of 68-67—135 and moved him into third place individually.

Lundell approaches Saturday’s final round just two shots back of individual leader Clay Feagler of Pepperdine who is at 68-65—133. Dylan Menante, also of Pepperdine, is in second at 67-67—134.

Kelton Hirsch posted his best two-round score of the season at 67-70—137 following a 2-under 70 in round two. He finished the day tied for fifth with Gavin Cohen of Loyola Marymount.

“Kelton played solid all day,” said Brockbank. “It’s fun to see our senior step up this week and play some of his best golf. He has been a great leader for this team.”

David Timmins (70), Keanu Akina (72) and Cole Ponich (73) rounded out the remainder of BYU’s second-round scoring.

With Friday’s scores, the Cougars are 20-under for the tournament with a two-round total of 277-279—556. Pepperdine continued to roll on Friday posting a second-round score of 16-under 272 for a two-day total of 541. BYU successfully defended its second-place position from No. 25 San Francisco with a three-shot lead over the Dons who are at 559. San Diego is in fourth at 562, followed by LMU at 564.

The Cougars will tee-off in the final round of the WCC Championship at 8:40 a.m. PDT on Saturday. Follow the final-round live scoring on Golfstat.
