Day 2 Recap

GOODYEAR, Arizona - Led by senior Jordan Rodgers' top-20 finish, BYU men's golf took 11th place at the Desert Shootout on Saturday afternoon.

"We shot a couple of shots better today, but we just didn't play very well," BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank said. "Rodgers didn't have his best putting week, which kept him from moving up a little more. We normally have a lot of success on this course, but for whatever reason we were off. We need to find a sense of urgency to play well in our remaining tournaments."

Despite shooting their lowest round of the tournament, the Cougars ended the tournament in 11th place (E). Kansas won the tournament by shooting 36-under-par, nine strokes ahead of the next team.

This is Rodgers' fifth time finishing in the top 20 this season. He finished the tournament in a tie for 13th, shooting six-under-par. His best score came in the first round with 69.

Freshman CJ Lee had a solid outing for his first tournament. He shot three-over-par to tie for 48th place. He had 73 in all three rounds.

Shooting four-over-par, junior Tommy Higham tied for 51st after earning 72 in the final round. Senior Mike Jurca shot his tournament-low of 71 in the third round to move up five places to a tie for 64th (+7).

Senior Cole Ogden foundd out the team, finishing in sole possession of 73rd and shooting 10-over-par.

BYU is back in action next week at Stanford Goodwin in Stanford, California. Play begins on Thursaday with live stats available on the BYU men's golf schedule page.
